Boasting beaches, forests, river and lakes Noosa is recognized as Australia’s premier holiday destination. Careful planning and a focus on environmental protection have seen Noosa recognized as an international model for sustainable tourism. Visitors from all over the world add a cosmopolitan character. There is much to do – surfing at quality beaches, walking in national parks, river and lake cruises, fine dining, visiting hinterland villages, fishing or enjoying the coffee scene. Noosa is also the gateway to Fraser Island and the Cooloola Coast. Grantlea is at the center of Noosa. The patrolled surf beach at Hastings Street, sheltered by the National Park headland, offers excellent swimming for all ages and is patrolled year round. Alexandra Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches in southern Queensland but only one of several beaches along the National Park walk. Fishing opportunities abound on the beaches, through the national park, river and lakes. Noosa Harbour on the Noosa River is the center for both off-shore and river fishing expeditions. Hire a boat and spend the day on the river, explore the lakes or take a day excursion to the everglades. The North Shore leads to the Cooloola Beach, the coloured sands and miles of surf beaches. Excursions to Fraser Island can be easily organized ranging from day trips to extended visits. The Hinterland includes the “villages” of Eumudi, Yandina, Cooroy and Pomona. Each has its own character and appeal. The Eumundi Markets (Wednesday and Saturday) are famous but also consider the local farmers markets at Noosa, Yandina and Pomona.
